GlouOS v0.5 has now dropped, its the first ever public version and demonstrates the fundamental architecture of GlouOS's gaming optimization features.
GlouOS 0.5
Added
- GlouOS Package Manager, new app for adding and removing games launchers
and apps after install: tick/untick anything from the catalog and hit Apply.
Checkboxes reflect what's actually installed. Includes search and no
password prompt for administrator accounts.
- New apps in the catalog (Package Manager and Welcome Center):
Roblox (Vinegar), Battle.net (via Lutris), TeamSpeak, and
Visual Studio Code.
- Welcome Center: search bar and a scrollable app list.
- A welcome notification after finishing the Welcome Center, pointing to the
Package Manager for installing more gaming packages.
Changed
- The "Hello." greeting on first login stays on screen a little longer.
- The Welcome Center's loading bar is replaced with a cleaner, minimal
spinner (used by the Package Manager too).
- "Heroic (Epic / GOG)" is now listed as "Epic Games / GOG (Heroic)" so
Epic users can find it.
- Welcome Center and Package Manager now share one app catalog under the
hood, so their lists always match.
Fixed
- GlouOS Big Picture no longer shows up in the app menu / on the desktop,
where clicking it did nothing. It remains available where it belongs: the
session picker on the login screen.
Removed
- Stray Python cache files that were accidentally shipped inside the package.
But This isn't the only thing...
We have added so much in the backend and have been so busy staying up to push out this working and functional version of GlouOS. This community may be small right now, but it will grow with time as we get the word out.
Personal Impacts
On Windows, I struggled with packet loss and interesting TCP issues that caused me to lag in ROBLOX and ONLY ROBLOX, which is strange. It must've been someway ROBLOX's servers were contacting my device, but this problem has been fully resolved since I made the switch to GlouOS.
I run an awful laptop for work and literally have next to no frames in the basic games, I switched to GlouOS and I'm finally able to get a decent framerate
